Stan Winston, visual-effects pioneer, dead at 62...

Stan Winston, one of Hollywood's leading makeup, visual-effects, and animatronic artists in both television and film, died on Sunday, June 15th at his home in California after a seven-year battle against multiple myeloma. Frequently working with top filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, James Cameron and Tim Burton, he garnered ten career Academy Award nominations and four Academy Award trophies.

Phil Tippett, who shared a visual effects Oscar with Winston on Jurassic Park, noted that, "Stan contributed to some of the greatest -- fantastic movie characters in motion picture history. His loss is a great one and he will be missed."
