Superbad Movie Pick

Untitled Document

In the grand tradition of such teenage classics as Dazed and Confused and Fast Times At Ridgemont High comes one of the funniest movies of the year. Superbad was originally written by Seth Rogen (Knocked Up) and Evan Goldberg when they were thirteen years old. Seth is headed for an unknown State school and seems doomed to a dateless and lonely existence without his childhood friend Evan to back him up. Evan (the lovable Michael Cera from Arrested Development), the smarter and more socially hopeful of the two, is on his way to a promising academic career at Dartmouth College where he'll be roommates with the hopelessly geeky Fogell (outstanding newcomer Christopher Mintz-Plasse). While I would not recommend this movie to everyone, this is a movie that knows its audience and caters to its every immature whim and fantasy. It's a hilarious yet intelligent coming-of-age story about two close friends preparing to leave high school, and each other, behind. This movie is surprisingly poignant at times and the teenaged protagonists actually do learn something about themselves by the end of their crazy and wild night, a rarity in this genre.
